Full Description & Details
Rovinj - Juzna luka is the southern harbour of Rovinj, a town on the western coast of Istria, Croatia, about 36 km north of Pula. The harbour sits south of the old town core, which developed on a peninsula that was once an island. The marina is operated by Lucka uprava Rovinj, the regional port authority, and is also known in Italian as Rovigno - Porto di Santa Caterina. It is the smaller and better protected of Rovinj's two harbours, the other being the more open Valdibora (Sjeverna luka) to the north.
The harbour has a jointed breakwater and offers good protection from the bora and sirocco winds, but it is exposed to westerly and south-westerly winds. Vessels drawing up to 5.5 m can berth on the outer side of the breakwater, while those drawing up to 3 m may dock on the inner side. Along the wharf there are berths for sports boats and smaller yachts. The seabed in the anchorage area is sand, and anchoring is allowed. Overnight stays are permitted.
Facilities at the harbour include water and a dock, and a snack bar is reachable by dinghy. The address is Setaliste Vijeca Europe, Rovinj. The port authority manages the harbour area and publishes public tenders for berth permits, including for the 2026 season. A live camera and weather data for the port are available on the authority's website, port-rovinj.hr.
Sailors should note the exposure to west and southwest winds when planning a stopover. The harbour is part of a protected landscape along the Rovinj coast, with numerous islands and islets offshore, including Sveta Katarina, Banjole, and Crveni Otok. The Mediterranean climate brings mild winters and warm summers. Larger vessels can anchor 500 m northwest and 300 m southeast of Sveta Katarina island, or 600 m southwest of Banjole islet.
How to get there
Approach Rovinj - Juzna luka from the south or southwest, keeping clear of the islands and islets that front the coast, including Sveta Katarina, Banjole, and Crveni Otok. The harbour is south of the old town peninsula, and its jointed breakwater provides the main shelter. There is no published VHF channel for the marina in the sources; contact the port authority, Lucka uprava Rovinj, via the website port-rovinj.hr for berth arrangements.
Land access is from the town of Rovinj itself, with the marina address on Setaliste Vijeca Europe. Rovinj is connected by regional roads to the main road (M2, E751) running from the Slovenian border through Buje to Pula. The nearest airport is at Pula, about 36 km to the south.
No formalities beyond standard Croatian port entry procedures are described in the sources.
