Full Description & Details
Marina Nautica lies on the eastern side of Novigrad Bay on the northwestern coast of Istria. Constructed by the Nautica Hotels and Resorts Group, the facility features a distinctive shell-like pier arrangement with six concrete piers. The marina is situated approximately 500 metres from Novigrad's old town and its shops and tourist attractions. The long north-south oriented breakwater is clearly visible from the bay's centre.
The marina provides 225 wet berths for yachts from 10 to 40 metres in length, with depths up to 4.0 metres. All berths have laid moorings, and berthing assistance is available. Yachts berth along the concrete piers, associated quays, or the marina breakwater. The bay offers good shelter from most conditions, though westerly and northwesterly winds can cause surge in the harbour. When these winds are forecast, yachts should relocate to the marina. An anchorage is available approximately 200 metres northeast of the pier in 34 metres depth.
Facilities include water and electricity hook-ups at the pontoon pier roots, fuel and gas station, reception office, exchange office, grocery shop, and nautical gear shop. A 12-tonne crane and 80-tonne travel lift serve the boatyard, which offers hard standing for 50 yachts and basic repair services. The marina operates a hotel, restaurant, and swimming pool. Winter berthing with care and maintenance is available. For major repairs, yachts must travel to Pula shipyard.
The marina operates year-round. Road connections are excellent, with Trieste 50 kilometres away and Pula Airport serving as the nearest domestic airport. The international airport at Trieste is 90 kilometres distant.
How to get there
Approach Novigrad Bay from the west-southwest, heading for the bay's centre while maintaining at least half a mile offshore whether arriving from north or south, as dangerous shoals lie inshore on both approaches. The bay is identified by a tall white belltower in the town on the southern peninsula and an octagonal tower with a sector light on the outer breakwater head. Marina Nautica's long breakwater is clearly visible on the eastern side of the bay, with entry around its southern end.
Two shoals require attention at the harbour entrance: Val shoal lies west-southwest of the harbour and is marked by a cylindrical black buoy with a red line and two black spheres on top; Meja shoal sits at the root of the breakwater's outer side. At night, keep within the white sector of the breakwater head light, as the red sector covers Val shoal and the green sector covers Meja shoal. Contact the marina on VHF channel 17 prior to entry.
The marina is accessible by road from Trieste (50 km), with Pula Airport 90 km away and Trieste international airport at 90 km.
