Full Description & Details
Luka Susak is the main harbour on the east side of Susak Island, situated approximately six miles west of Losinj in the northern Croatian Adriatic. The harbour consists of an L-shaped protective breakwater 150m long, an operational quay 50m long and 11m wide, and berthing along the shore. The facility is constructed of stone and concrete and includes mooring equipment, harbour lighting and a boat ramp. The harbour connects to the settlement's road network, electricity and telephone infrastructure.
The harbour offers 12 moorings with water depths ranging from 1.5m to 4m, with the deepest water of 2-4m at the breakwater head. The operational quay has depths of 1.5-3m alongside and can accommodate three small vessels or 15 small craft. The harbour provides protection from all winds except easterly conditions. When the ferry docks at the outside of the L-shaped pier, a strong swell can develop. Docking is possible inside the small port where moorings are available, though water depth inside is limited to 1-2m in some areas. Berthing is possible alongside all docks except where the ferry berths.
Electricity and water connections are available at the harbour. Nearby facilities include restaurants, bars and shops in the settlement. The harbour master is reported to be friendly and helpful. A project to expand the pier and add a ferry ramp has been completed, providing improved berthing for line vessels and additional communal berths. The harbour serves both local boats and visiting yachts, though space can be limited during peak season when tripper boats from Losinj visit.
Susak is not a port of entry, so foreign yachts arriving from Italy must continue to Mali Losinj to clear customs. The island supports a population of under 200 residents, mostly in Susak Town which is divided between the main hillside village and the harbour area below.
