Goli otok is a small harbour on the deserted island of Goli, south of the island of Rab in the Kvarner region of Croatia. The island was once a prison island, and the abandoned penitentiary buildings now stand empty and devastated, with no infrastructure or services beyond the harbour itself. The port area, known as Goli otok - Tetina or Melna, consists of operational and protective breakwaters, operational quays, and a part of undeveloped coast.
The breakwaters and quays are massively built of stone and concrete and are in good condition for use. The harbour is open 24/7 and has no fee, but it is a basic stopover rather than a full-service marina.
How to get there
Approach the harbour from the sea, noting that the harbour light is not in operation, so plan to arrive in daylight. The north and south quays have up to 4 metres of water depth, but the east side is silted and shallow, so keep to the deeper western side. There is a slipway for hauling small craft. The harbour is located on the deserted island of Goli, south of the island of Rab.
There is no regular ferry service; access is by private boat. The nearest town with facilities is on Rab, a short distance to the north. No formalities are required for visiting the harbour itself, but check local regulations for anchoring and landing on the island.
