As soon as you decided to go sailing in Croatia, you need to choose a vessel suitable for your Croatia bareboat charter.
Although it may seem easy to rent a boat in Croatia, there are certain mistakes that you must avoid.
We will share top 10 tips and tricks to help you avoid these mistakes.
1.Charter agency that suits your needs
Over 900 charter agencies in Croatia charter over 4,000 vessels. It is important to select a well-respected charter agency that takes care of its vessels.
If you don’t have the knowledge to do this, it is best to rent newer yachts (upto 5 years old).
You should also check the distance between your departure port and nearest airport in Croatia.
Get your transfer from airport to marina or your hotel.
2. Take care when purchasing brand-new vessels
A yacht with at least one year rental experience is the best and most secure option.
3. For perfect harmony, you will need to have a minimum number of cabins
You should have a separate cabin for your crew if you plan to hire a skipper and hostess/chef.
The salon space is small and it is not recommended for anyone younger than 18 years old, as they are not likely to require comfort.
Not only that, but more than three passengers to one toilet onboard is not recommended.
4. Anchor chain to give you peace of mind
This tip is for anchoring enthusiasts: Pay attention to the length of your anchor chain! On most Croatian bareboat charters, the minimum length (also known as standard) of the anchor chain is 50m. However, it is often combined with a rope that is less safe.
Boaters anchor at depths of more than 10 meters during the peak season, when boats are moored in beautiful bays.
You will sleep better if the chain is longer.
We recommend a longer, thicker chain for yachts with more than 55 feet. The minimum thickness should be 10 mm. Anchor chains must be marked at least every 10 m. Check with your agent before renting. Ask your charter company to mark anchor chains every 10m before you arrive.
5. Bow thruster is your best friend
If you don’t intend to hire a skipper or rent a boat that is longer than 40 feet, a bow-propeller boat is recommended. Many marinas in Croatia have limited space to maneuver.
Good sailing skills are essential, especially in windy conditions. The bow propeller can be of great assistance in such situations.
6. Air conditioning in the hottest months of the year
The air temperature can reach up to 35 degrees. If you don’t like sleeping on deck, the air conditioner will be your best friend. The air conditioner cannot be used while your yacht is connected with external power or in the marina. A generator is required to cool your boat if you plan to spend the night in a beautiful bay.
7. Water toys: Yes
8. You can’t eat at all costs!
Early booking discounts are usually available from most charter companies and last until January 31st. You can save up to 15% on a Croatian boat rental if you book early.
9. You can rent a boat in Croatia, but don’t forget your transit log!
10. Three, two, one!
- You should ensure you have enough food onboard. The best online grocery store Jam yacht supplies has been a good choice in Croatia.
- If you’ve hired a chef/hostess, make sure to send them your food & beverage preferences list.
- Before you arrive, send a complete crew list to your charter agency.
- You might consider the early check in option. Standard check-in is at 5 pm. For an additional 100 150 euro, you can check in earlier and your vessel will be available for handover by 1 pm. There are many benefits to this method if you feel you can reach your charter base before then.
