Full Description & Details
Marina Olib is situated on the west coast of Olib Island at the head of a nearly two-mile wide bay in Zadar County. The facility consists of a long ferry pier with laid moorings on either side for visiting yachts, while a small craft harbour at the inner end is unsuitable for yachts. The island itself is an attractive, traffic-free destination with a population of only 147, surviving on fishing, tourism and local products such as olive oil, wine and cheese.
The marina provides 20 berths divided between two sides of the ferry pier. The south side, starting at a yellow marker, accommodates 10 yachts in depths of 2.3 metres at the quay, though skippers must beware of mooring lines in the relatively shallow water. The east side offers 10 berths in 4.0 metres depth but is more exposed to weather. The west side is reserved for ferries and tripper boats up to the yellow marker. Water and electricity are available on the quay. Protection is moderate to good depending on wind strength and direction, but the marina is not suitable during very strong winds from north through west to southwest.
Facilities include showers, provisions and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The marina serves as a practical stopover for yachts exploring the offshore islands of Premuda, Silba, Ist and Molat. Mali Losinj is the nearest port of entry, with Bozava on Dugi Otok serving as a summer-only alternative. The island has historical points of interest including the Parish Church Assumption of Mary, the 17th-century Tower Kastel, and Roman-era settlement remnants in the cove of Banve. Ferry connections are available to Zadar and Rijeka.
How to get there
When approaching Marina Olib from the north, note that the islet of Hrid Kujack has dangerous rocks off it with shallows extending all the way northeast across to the island. The port is located on the west coast of Olib Island at coordinates 44°22.774'N, 014°46.513'E at the head of a nearly two-mile wide bay. Skippers should contact the port authority on +385 989 966 140, though no VHF channel is specified in the sources.
The 20 yacht berths fill quickly during the season, so advance contact with the port authority is recommended. Choose between the south side with 2.3 metres depth and better shelter, or the east side with 4.0 metres depth but more exposure, based on vessel draft and weather conditions. Avoid berthing during very strong winds from north through west to southwest.
The marina is approximately 1 kilometre from the town of Sveta Stosija and about 185 kilometres from Zagreb.
