Full Description & Details
Marina Ist occupies the southern shore of Ist island in the Zadar archipelago, within Siroka cove. The marina operates seasonally from April through November and provides 66 berths alongside mooring buoys. Depths range from 1.5 to 3 metres, with mediocre holding reported. The facility is not well-protected from wind; both bora and sirocco can create dangerous conditions, and with sirocco the marina experiences swell. In strong winds, vessels should moor on the inner side of the breakwater rather than using the outer buoys. A wooden pontoon fixed to the south side of the breakwater is available in high season, though shallow rocks require caution in this area.
Facilities include water and electricity hook-ups at the berths, toilets, showers, and a reception office. The village of Ist, immediately adjacent to the marina, offers several restaurants, a few shops and markets, an exchange office, a post office, and the harbour master's office. A diving centre operates on the island. Restaurants serve local wines, olive oil, and fresh seafood including lobster, octopus, crab, and snapper.
The island itself is relatively densely populated and shaped like a butterfly, with hills covered in forests, olive groves, and vineyards. A trail leads to the church atop Straza hill at 174 metres elevation, offering views of the islands Skarda to the west and Molat to the southeast. The southern coast features small sandy coves with clear water shaded by pines. Anchoring west of the marina is prohibited due to ferry traffic. The passenger ferry connecting Ist to Zadar docks at the tip of the main breakwater.
How to get there
When approaching Marina Ist from seaward, pass Cape Jabucni at the southeast of Ist island and proceed through the Zapuntel strait between Ist and neighbouring Molat island, then enter Siroka bay. The marina lies at the head of the bay. A green light marks the breakwater, and a small chapel on Straza hill serves as a landmark. Contact the marina on VHF channel 17.
Zadar lies 56 kilometres by road, and Zadar Airport is 60 kilometres distant. The island is served by a passenger ferry from Zadar that docks at the marina breakwater. Nearby sailing distances include Marina Tankerkomerc on Veli Iz at 20 nautical miles, Marina Vitrenjak (Uskok) at 21 nautical miles, and Marina Mali Losinj at 26 nautical miles.
