Puerto de La Estaca is a small port on the north-eastern coast of the island of El Hierro, near Valverde (Canary Islands, Spain).
The port and is designated for merchant and passenger vessels.
A regular ferry service to the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera is located here.
Until the opening of the airport in 1972, only this small port, separated from the mainland by high volcanic rocks, was able to connect the island with the rest of the world.
The name of the port, built in 1906, comes from the word “estas”, referring to the type of wooden piling to which fishermen moored their boats.

El Hierro is the smallest island in the southwest of the Canary archipelago, with a surface area of only 280 km².
El Hierro has the highest density of volcanoes in the Canaries, but its last eruption was more than 200 years ago.
There are no swanky beaches on the island, but there are simply quiet and totally secluded from civilisation, where you can simply take a break from the hustle and bustle.
