Location
Positioned at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, Gulf Harbour Marina is approximately 40 kilometres north of Auckland’s city centre. With its strategic location, it’s a perfect stepping-off point for exploring the enchanting islands scattered throughout the Gulf.
Approach to the Marina (Marina Entry and Navigation)
Gulf Harbour Marina, situated on the Whangaparāoa Peninsula’s southern side, can be accessed from the south and east. A red and white sectored light (FL WR 3S 5/3M) serves as the guiding beacon during approach, ensuring vessels steer clear of Kotanui Island and the rock breakwater.
The marina features a deep-water entry channel distinguished by red and green flashing lights on painted piles and white transit leading marks. These marks, shaped as white triangles and lit by flashing white lights at night, must be aligned to maintain a safe transit course.
Upon entering the marina, the Ferry Terminal, marking the end of Z pier, is a noteworthy feature to your port side. Progressing northward, piers are labelled A to L, with lit signs atop poles. Larger berths (18-20m) are located at A pier, smaller berths (10.5m) at L pier, and various sizes in between. The berths are numbered in a way that odd-numbered berths are on the piers’ south side and even-numbered ones on the north.
For berth allocation at the Marina, you’re encouraged to reach out either via a phone call to 09 424 6200 or through VHF CH 73 to converse with the on-duty Dockmaster.
The Marina is well-equipped with two agile work boats and experienced Dockmasters available to aid with berthing if necessary. You can request their assistance either at the time of booking or upon your arrival. Please remember to maintain a speed below 5Kts within the Marina or at a velocity that doesn’t create a wake.
