Full Description & Details
Risan Harbour is a small coastal harbour situated at the extreme north end of the western arm of the Bay of Kotor, approximately two miles north of Perast and seven miles by sea northwest of Kotor. The harbour provides alongside berthing for 3-4 moderate-draft yachts along the inner, land-side quay. Depths at the quay measure 2.0 metres, increasing to 2.5-2.75 metres where the keel lies, with approximately 3 metres at the head of the pier. Bollards are widely spaced and set back about a metre from the quay edge. A small ledge runs along the quay.
Shelter is excellent in all conditions, making this a secure harbour in the Bay of Kotor. However, fresh to strong overnight thermal north winds may occur, and westerly winds can make the outer part of the dam uncomfortable. Berthing with bows facing north is recommended to handle these thermal winds.
Facilities are basic. Water is available via a long hose near the southeastern corner of the harbour. There is no shore power. Fuel must be purchased in cans from a garage located 200 metres from the harbour. The outer breakwater serves as a customs quay and mooring along it is not possible. The end of the pier is also restricted for mooring.
Risan is not an official port of entry for Montenegro. Yachts must clear customs at Kotor or Zelenika before arriving. The harbour's limited capacity and basic amenities make it suitable for short stays by vessels with moderate draft seeking shelter in the inner Bay of Kotor.
How to get there
The approach to Risan Harbour is generally free from hazards when navigating through the Bay of Kotor. Caution is required for shallows close inshore immediately west of the harbour. The harbour is located at coordinates 42.5132°N, 18.6947°E at the extreme northern end of the western arm of the Bay of Kotor.

By air, the nearest airport is Tivat (TIV), located 18 kilometres away, approximately a 52-minute drive. Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) in Croatia is approximately 65 kilometres away. From Tivat, the Blue Line bus service runs to Risan, taking about 45 minutes and costing €2-€5. By land, the harbour is accessible by road from Tivat and other towns around the Bay of Kotor.
