Full Description & Details
Kotor Cruise Pirs lies deep inside the Bay of Kotor, a dramatic inlet often compared to a fjord but actually a submerged river canyon, and listed as a UNESCO World Natural and Historical Heritage site. The marina is positioned at the heart of the medieval walled town, with the main entrance of the Old Town literally across the street. This location places you in an ancient port city with twenty centuries of history, surrounded by towering limestone mountains; from the berths you look up at the San Giovanni serpentines. The bay itself is celebrated as one of the 25 most beautiful bays in the world.
The marina is sheltered by an 80-meter floating breakwater, built with Marinetek technology, providing excellent protection from the bay's sudden gusts and wind shifts. It offers 142 berths for vessels from 8 to 50 meters LOA, all on modern floating pontoons with a depth of 8.5 meters, sufficient for deep-draft yachts. The layout consists of three piers perpendicular to the shore and one parallel, with a total quay length of 204 meters, using a standard Mediterranean anchoring system.
Every berth has a power and water supply, and WiFi covers the marina. Just across the street, a small market sells traditional delicacies, fresh fruit, and vegetables for immediate provisioning. A larger supermarket is a 10–15-minute walk north of the Old Town. Note that the marina does not advertise fuel, showers, laundry, or repair services, so plan accordingly.
The Bay of Kotor’s terrain-driven winds can create sudden gusts and direction changes in the narrow passages, and traffic from cruise ships and ferries is heavy, particularly in summer. The floating breakwater keeps the marina basin calm. The best season is June through September for settled weather, but expect crowds. For the quietest experience, arrive early in the day before the cruise ships disembark. Monitor VHF channel 17 and approach at slow speed, leaving maneuvering room for other vessels.
How to get there
The approach to Kotor Cruise Pirs requires navigating the long, narrow Bay of Kotor. The route passes through several constricted sections and bends; be aware of sudden gusty winds and shifting directions caused by the steep surrounding mountains. Maintain a measured speed and give way to larger cruise ships that ply the bay.
As you near the head of the bay, the marina appears directly opposite the main Sea Gate of the Old Town. Contact the marina on VHF channel 17 for berthing instructions. The entrance is clearly visible and sheltered by the floating breakwater.
The marina is immediately adjacent to the Old Town, a five-minute walk to the main gate. A taxi rank is outside the port for trips to Perast, Tivat Airport, and Budva; agree on the fare in advance.
