Full Description & Details

Lokvino Rava Harbor is a small anchorage on the eastern side of the island of Rava, part of the Zadar archipelago in northern Dalmatia. The harbor sits in a narrow, sheltered bay that opens to the south, with the village of Rava just inland. The setting is quiet and rural, with low stone houses and olive groves rising from the water, and no large-scale development along the shore. The bay is used mainly by local fishing boats and visiting cruisers looking for a calm overnight stop away from the busier routes between Zadar and the Kornati islands. The water is clear and the bottom is a mix of sand and mud, which gives good holding for anchors.

There are no dedicated berths or pontoons, so all vessels anchor in the bay. The harbor is exposed to winds from the south and southeast, but the surrounding hills provide good shelter from the dominant northwesterly maestral in summer. Depths inside the bay range from 3 to 6 meters, with deeper water near the entrance. The holding is generally good in the soft bottom, but care is needed to avoid the few scattered rocks close to the shore. There is no fuel, water, or electricity at the harbor, and no shore power or waste disposal facilities.

The nearest supplies are in the village, which has a small shop and a couple of konoba restaurants open in summer. The harbor is best visited between May and September, when the weather is settled and the local restaurants are open. Outside that season, the bay is exposed and largely deserted, with no services available. There are no mooring buoys or harbor fees, and anchoring is free. The approach is straightforward in daylight, with no marked channel.

From the north, the bay is entered by passing between the islets of Mala and Vela Sestrica, then heading south into the anchorage. From the south, the entrance is clear of obstructions, but the chart shows a shallow patch near the western shore that should be avoided. The nearest port with full facilities is on the island of Iz, about 5 nautical miles to the northeast, and the mainland town of Zadar is roughly 12 nautical miles away. There is no regular ferry service to Rava, but a local boat runs from Zadar on request in summer. The nearest airport is Zadar Airport, about 20 kilometers from the mainland ferry terminal.

How to get there

Approach Lokvino Rava Harbor from the south or southeast, as the bay opens in that direction. From the Zadar channel, head toward the island of Rava and identify the small village church on the hill above the bay. The entrance is between the two small islets of Mala and Vela Sestrica, which lie about 0.3 nautical miles off the northern tip of the island. Pass between these islets with at least 5 meters of water, then turn south into the bay.

The anchorage is in the center of the bay, in 3 to 6 meters of water, with good holding in sand and mud. Avoid the western shore, where the chart shows a shallow patch. There is no VHF channel in use at the harbor, and no port control. The nearest fuel and water are at the marina on Iz, about 5 nautical miles northeast.

Land access is by a local boat from Zadar, which runs on request in summer, or by private dinghy to the small stone quay in the village. The nearest airport is Zadar Airport, about 20 kilometers from the mainland ferry terminal.
