Full Description & Details

Luka Vir is a small communal harbour located in Uvala Lucica on the southern coast of Vir Island, Croatia. The facility covers a total area of 9,192 m², comprising 788 m² of land and 8,394 m² of sea surface. Administered by the Zadar County Port Authority, the harbour is entirely designated for communal berthing purposes. The island of Vir lies just off the southwestern end of Pag Island and is connected to the mainland by a road bridge.

The harbour offers depths between 2 and 3 metres at mean low water, suitable for vessels under 20 metres in length. Maneuverability is rated as fair, with channel marking also described as fair. The facility provides electricity and has a supermarket nearby. Berthing is available for overseas visitors, with fixed docks and stern-to mooring style. Tidal flow in the area is negligible.

Vir Island is a popular summer destination for mainland tourists, though it receives fewer visiting yachtsmen than neighbouring islands due to its limited facilities. The harbour operates under the management of Zupanijska lucka uprava Zadar, with office hours from 07:00 to 15:00 and public service hours from 08:00 to 13:00 on working days. The facility was officially classified as a port of local significance in 2013.

Sailors should note that the harbour is primarily intended for communal use. The wider bay of Zaljev Vir, where the harbour is located, is open to the south and southeast, making it untenable in strong winds from these directions. The prevailing northwest winds provide good shelter in the bay.

How to get there

Luka Vir is located in Uvala Lucica on the southern coast of Vir Island at coordinates 44.2968°N, 15.0848°E. When approaching from the west into the wider Zaljev Vir bay, mariners should note an unmarked shoal area approximately 500 metres northeast of the western headland. The harbour itself lies at the eastern portion of the bay, near where the island connects to the mainland via a road bridge. The channel beneath this bridge is navigable only by small vessels.

The nearest port of entry is Mali Losinj, with Bozava on Dugi Otok serving as an alternative port of entry during summer only. The harbour can be contacted by telephone at +385 23 250 563 or by email at [email protected]. The facility is managed by Zupanijska lucka uprava Zadar, located at Franka Lisice 77 in Zadar.

Office hours are 07:00 to 15:00, with public service available from 08:00 to 13:00 on working days.
