Full Description & Details

Kornic Harbour is a small mooring area on the southern shore of the island of Krk, directly in front of the village of Kornic. The harbour sits roughly 3 nautical miles southeast of the town of Krk and about 2 nautical miles west of the Punat bay entrance. It is a simple, exposed anchorage rather than a full-service marina, with a short stone quay and a few mooring buoys laid out for summer visitors. The seabed is a mix of sand and weed, and the holding is generally good in settled weather, though the harbour offers no protection from southerly or southwesterly winds.

Berthing is limited to the quay on a first-come, first-served basis, and most yachts choose to pick up a buoy or anchor in 3 to 6 metres of water. Depths at the quay are shallow, around 1.5 to 2 metres, so it suits smaller boats or dinghies rather than deep-draft yachts. There are no dedicated visitor berths, no water or electricity on the quay, and no fuel dock. The harbour is operated by the local tourist board, and a small fee is collected during the summer months for buoy use or quay mooring.

Facilities are minimal. A few taverns and a small shop sit a short walk from the quay in the village, and there is a public toilet near the waterfront. Garbage bins are available on the quay. For provisioning, repairs, or laundry, the larger town of Krk is a short bus ride or a 20-minute walk along the coastal path. The nearest fuel station for boats is in the marina at Punat, about 2 nautical miles east.

Kornic Harbour is best used as a daytime stop or an overnight anchorage in calm summer weather. The holding is reliable in northerly winds, but the harbour is open to the south and should be avoided when strong southerly winds are forecast. There are no navigation lights on the quay, so arriving after dark is not recommended. Swimming is popular off the rocks at the eastern end of the bay, and the water is clean and clear.

How to get there

Approach Kornic Harbour from the west or southwest, keeping at least 200 metres off the shore until the quay and the village church tower are clearly visible. The bay is open and free of hazards in the approach, but the water shoals gradually, so sound the depth before coming closer than 50 metres to the beach. There is no marked channel and no leading lights; in daylight, line up the church tower with the western end of the quay to bring you into the best anchoring ground in 3 to 5 metres of sand and weed.

There is no VHF working channel for the harbour; the local tourist office monitors channel 17 only during office hours in July and August. The nearest port of entry is Krk town, about 3 nautical miles northwest, where customs and harbour master formalities can be completed. From Kornic, the road leads directly into the village centre, and a regular bus service connects Kornic with Krk town and the island's main ferry port at Krk.

The nearest airport is Rijeka on the mainland, reachable by ferry from Krk town.
