Full Description & Details

Azmak Koyu is a wide bay on the northern shore of the Gulf of Sigacik, near Seferihisar in Izmir province, Turkey. The bay takes its name from the stream that flows into its eastern end. It is an anchorage rather than a marina, with no berths or pontoons; boats lie to their own ground tackle. The shore is a popular weekend promenade, so expect company ashore and afloat on Saturdays and Sundays.

Anchoring is in about 5 metres depth over a seabed of sand and shingle, which gives reasonable holding. The bay is sheltered from the north but open to the south, so it takes a swell from that direction. Strong northerlies can push swell into the bay, and the wind funnels down from the heights with full force, so pick your spot with the forecast in mind. The shore can be crowded on weekends, which makes landing the tender busier than on weekdays.

There are no marina facilities here. The main attractions are ashore: old machine gun emplacements from the war years sit on the shore, and the beach itself is a popular spot for locals. Land access exists, so provisions and services are reachable overland, though the sources do not detail specific shops, restaurants, or water points at the anchorage itself. The nearest full-service facility is Teos Marina, about 2 nautical miles away.

Approach with care in strong northerly winds, as the bay offers no protection from that quarter despite being sheltered from the north. The seabed is sand and shingle throughout, so anchoring is straightforward in the 5-metre depth. There are no reported restrictions beyond the weekend crowding along the shore. The best conditions are in settled weather with light or southerly winds; avoid the bay when strong northerlies are forecast.

How to get there

Azmak Koyu lies on the northern side of the Gulf of Sigacik, about 2 nautical miles from Teos Marina. Approach from the south or southwest, entering the bay and anchoring in about 5 metres of water over sand and shingle. There is no marked channel or harbour entrance; the bay is open and straightforward to enter in daylight.

Watch for strong northerly winds, which push swell into the bay and blow hard down from the heights, so time your approach for settled conditions. Land access exists, so you can reach the shore by tender and walk inland. The nearest town is Sigacik, part of Seferihisar district, with Teos Marina nearby for fuel, water, and other services.

No formalities are reported for anchoring here beyond standard Turkish cruising requirements. The shore is crowded on weekends, so land early or on a weekday if you want an easy landing.
