Full Description & Details

Yesilkoy Marina lies on the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara, about 11 km west of Istanbul's historic city centre, in the Bakirkoy district. The harbour is a working fish harbour as well as a marina, administered by the Istanbul Municipality. It sits between the neighbourhoods of Yesilyurt to the northeast and Florya to the southwest. The area was once a village and sea resort before Istanbul's population grew rapidly in the 1970s, and it still has sandy beaches nearby.

The harbour provides good shelter, though swell from large commercial vessels passing through the Marmara can be a nuisance. The marina has 95 berths, with boats moored stern or bows to on the south quay. Water and electricity are available on the quay, and there is a fuel pump on the quay as well. The outer breakwater is 350 m long and the inner breakwater is 150 m. Holding is not an issue here since berths are alongside, not on anchor.

Facilities at the marina include toilets, showers, a laundry, and an administration office. There is a fish market on site, plus net repairing and covered storage areas. Provisions are easy to obtain: supermarkets, shops, markets and stores are in the city, and there are fish restaurants nearby that are clean and offer pleasant service. The Yesilkoy sandy beaches are a short walk away, and the fish market is a local attraction.

For formalities, the harbourmaster is on site. If clearing in or out of Turkey, a yacht must go to the Yolcu Salonu ferry terminal in the Karakoy area of Istanbul, where the authorities are located. The marina monitors VHF channel 16 with the call sign "yesilkoy marina". The historic city centre of Istanbul is about 11 km away, and the area is well connected by bus, suburban train, and ferry services.

How to get there

The lighthouse and breakwaters are easily seen in the approach. The main breakwater lighthouse is at 40.955173N, 28.825114E, and the inner breakwater lighthouse is at 40.956035N, 28.824591E. The Yesilkoy lighthouse itself, at 40.958507N, 28.838951E, has a white flash every 10 seconds with a visibility range of 15 nautical miles. Contact the marina on VHF channel 16 using the call sign "yesilkoy marina" before entering.
