Full Description & Details

Karacasogut is a small, sheltered bay on the southern shore at the east end of the Gulf of Gokova, near Marmaris. The bay sits between Dede Burnu and Kucukyali Burnu, protected by Karaca Ada to the northeast, and its pine-forested slopes funnel the prevailing westerly wind into a steady breeze. The cove is roughly round, about 800 meters in diameter, with depths that fall off quickly toward the middle. It has become a place to over-winter since a small marina was established here.

The marina, operated as Global Sailing Karacasogut, has 35 berths and uses a mooring buoy (tonoz) system. Berths are stern-to at the jetties, and anchoring with a long line ashore is also possible. Depths at the moorings range from 12 to 14 meters, and the sandy bottom provides reliable holding. Protection is from the west, and while shelter is generally good, occasional brief gusts can occur.

Water and electricity are available at the berths, along with showers, toilets, and laundry facilities. A market at the jetty covers basic provisioning. The T-shaped quay in the middle of the cove has a restaurant run by Setur, and there is also a restaurant and bar at the marina. A boutique hotel and the Global Sailing Academy are on site, and yacht charter is offered. A separate jetty on the south-southeast side of the bay is owned and operated by the restaurant it leads to, with water, electricity, toilets, and showers.

The marina is open year-round for short- and long-term berthing and wintering. Nearby attractions include the Karacasogut Waterfall, Karacain Cave, and Sedir Island with Cleopatra Beach. The bay is a natural starting point for sailing to the Seven Islands, Kufre Bay, and other anchorages in the gulf.

How to get there

Karacasogut is on the southern shore at the east end of the Gulf of Gokova, with the bay lying between Dede Burnu and Kucukyali Burnu and protected by Karaca Ada to the northeast. Approach from the gulf, keeping Karaca Ada to one side, and enter the round cove. Depths fall off quickly toward the middle, so keep to the edges when coming in to pick up a mooring or anchor.

Berth stern-to at one of the jetties, or anchor and take a long line ashore. The T-shaped quay in the middle of the cove is run by Setur. The jetty on the south-southeast side is operated by the restaurant there; a sign reads "Owner is Torga, mobile 0539 885 6653." The restaurant only opens during the sailing season. No VHF channel is listed for the marina.
