Full Description & Details
Atabay Boatyard is a working yard and marina in Eskihisar, on the north shore of Izmit Bay, about 40 miles east of Istanbul. It is a practical stop for yachts heading to or from the Marmara Sea, and it is known locally as a place where boats can be hauled out for winter storage or repairs. The marina has 200 berths and can take vessels up to 60 metres in length.
Depths alongside reach 10 metres, so even deep-keel boats can lie comfortably. The atmosphere is functional rather than resort-like, with the yard's cranes and workshop areas visible from the quay. Power and water are available at the berths, and there is a restaurant on site.
Overnight stays are permitted, making it a convenient base for exploring the nearby town or for preparing a boat for the Istanbul leg of a passage.
How to get there
Approaching from Izmit Bay, head toward the Eskihisar shore; the marina lies in the lee of the point that shelters the harbour. There are no reported hazards in the approach channel, but keep an eye out for local fishing boats working the bay. The marina monitors VHF channel 16, so call ahead for a berth assignment and to confirm depths if your draft is close to the maximum.
By land, Eskihisar is on the main coastal road from Gebze, and the marina is a short walk from the town centre. Istanbul's airports are roughly an hour away by road, and the ferry terminal for the Eskihisar to Yalova crossing is nearby, which can be useful for crew changes or provisioning runs.
