Full Description & Details
Ciftlik Bay is a protected anchorage on Turkey's Bozburun Peninsula, roughly 10 nautical miles east of Marmaris. The bay is sheltered from prevailing winds by a private rocky island on its southeastern side, with deep, wide passages on both sides of the island. The holding is good in mud and sand, with depths up to 5 metres.
The bay is known for its welcoming taverns, each with its own pier; staff wave flags to attract yachts to their berths. Once moored, you can use electricity, water, toilets and showers in the restaurant free of charge, provided you dine there. The taverns serve traditional Turkish cuisine at democratic prices, with generous portions.
A morning visit is recommended for fresh hot tortillas and the classic 'captain's breakfast'.
How to get there
Approach Ciftlik Bay from the east or west, using the deep, wide passages on either side of the rocky island that protects the bay. The passages are clear of obstructions, but caution is advised in poor visibility. There are no specific navigational hazards noted, but the island is private, so keep a respectful distance from the owner's residence.
The bay is well-sheltered from prevailing winds, but be aware of gusts funnelling through the passes. There is no VHF channel assigned; contact the taverns by hailing on channel 16 or simply tie up at a vacant pier. The nearest airport is Dalaman (DLM), about 90 km away, with road access to Marmaris and then by boat to the bay.
