Full Description & Details
Porto Deportivo de Pontevedra sits at the mouth of the River Lerez, where it enters the Ria de Pontevedra, right in the centre of the city of Pontevedra in Galicia. The marina is managed by the Club Naval de Pontevedra under a concession from Portos de Galicia. It opened in 1996 and is a very safe harbour, sheltered from sea attack by the sand bars at the head of the ria, a position that has historically protected the city. The marina is on Avenida de Uruguay, next to the seafront promenade and close to the Ponte das Correntes and the old town.
The marina has 142 berths, all rented out, with a maximum length of 16 metres and a maximum draft of 4 metres. The depth at the entrance and alongside the quay is 2 metres, with depths ranging from 2 to 4 metres. The entrance channel is marked with green and red lights. Protection is very good, but the first pontoon can be unusable at low tide due to silt accumulation in the Lerez mouth, and the channel has been losing depth in recent years. The Ponte da Barca restricts access for sailing vessels with a mast height over 12 metres.
Facilities include electricity and water at the berth, showers and toilets, a waiting quay, night lighting, surveillance, a public telephone, VHF channel 9, a sailing club, MARPOL oil collection, rubbish collection, taxi, gym, diesel and unleaded fuel, and a crane. The Club Naval building, inaugurated in 2005, has a cafeteria with views over the ria. Many good restaurants are near the marina, and the town centre is immediately adjacent.
Overnight stays are permitted. The marina is very crowded in summer, so arriving early is wise. The approach is limited by the 2 metre depth at low water and the bridge height restriction. The nautical chart is 4162-IHM. By land, access is from the AP-9 motorway via the northern entrance to Pontevedra, or along Avenida de Uruguay (the N-550 road), which passes beside the port.
How to get there
Approach the marina at the mouth of the River Lerez in the Ria de Pontevedra. The entrance channel is dredged but shallow, with 2 metres of water at low tide, so plan to enter around high water if your draft is near the limit. The channel mouth is marked with green and red lights.
The Ponte da Barca spans the approach and will not allow sailing vessels with a mast height over 12 metres to pass. Contact the marina on VHF channel 9 before entering. By land, the marina is in the centre of Pontevedra on Avenida de Uruguay, next to the seafront promenade.
Access is from the AP-9 motorway, taking the northern entrance to Pontevedra, or along the N-550 road which runs beside the port. The old town is a short walk away, and the marina is at the head of the ria, well inside the city.
