Full Description & Details
Port de Socoa is a small drying harbour lying under the Fort de Socoa on the Basque coast of France, at the western end of the Bay of Saint Jean de Luz. The marina is a multipolygon facility with 156 berths, and it is known locally as Zokoko portua.
It is a compact port intended for small craft, with a maximum length of 8 metres and a maximum draught of 1.70 metres. The setting is open to the north, and the bay's depths slope gently, so the harbour is best suited to shallow-draft boats.
How to get there
Approach the port from the Bay of Saint Jean de Luz, which is open to the north. The western entrance, the Passe de l'Ouest, lies between the digues of Socoa and Artha, with depths of about 15 metres on the west side and 8 to 9 metres on the east side. Contact the port on VHF channel 16 for berthing instructions.
The port is directly under the Fort de Socoa, and the Semaphore de Socoa is nearby. The nearest town is Saint Jean de Luz, about 0.9 nautical miles to the east, and the port is accessible by road from the town.
