Full Description & Details
Hendaye - Sokoburu is a deep-water marina and fishing port in the Bay of Chingoudy, at the mouth of the Bidasoa River, which forms the border with Spain. The marina is in the Sokoburu district of Hendaye, close to the Spanish town of Hondarribia, and is one of the few shelters on the French Basque coast. It is protected from the wind and is accessible at any time and in any weather.
How to get there
Approach the marina by staying in the access channel, which is marked by three lighted buoys. At night, the Cabo Higuer lighthouse shows Fl(2)W.10s65m23M. Entry lights include the Sokoburu outer breakwater light Fl(3)R.9s8m5M, the outer downstream light Fl.R.5s7m2M, the marina breakwater/corner light Fl(2)R.6s6m2M, and the south jetty light Q(9)W.15s5m2M. The Bidasoa channel has a green buoy Fl.G.5s3M, with downstream and upstream lights Fl(2)G.6s3m2M and Fl(3)G.12s3m2M. Beware of the Briquets rocks north of Pointe Ste-Anne. The access channel can silt up easily, and the port tends to silt up, so contact the harbor office for current draft limits before arriving.
The channel was dredged in 2025, and dredging of the access channel is planned for 2026.
