Full Description & Details
Okluk Koyu is a sheltered bay on the southeast side of Degirmen Buku, the largest bay in Gokova Gulf, about 2 nautical miles south of Zeytinli Ada. It is known as the former home port of the sailing yacht Kısmet, owned by Sadun Boro, the first Turkish sailor to circumnavigate the world. A mermaid statue, created by sculptor Tankut Oktem in 1995, stands on rocks at the bay's entrance as a gift from Boro.
The bay offers all-round shelter with excellent holding in a muddy bottom. Depths are around 12 meters in the middle, shoaling to 7-8 meters near the reedy shores, where caution is needed. You can anchor between the piers or in the northern corner with a stern line ashore.
The southern shore has two restaurants with piers offering water, electricity, and laundry services. Basic provisions are available from markets at the restaurants, and fuel can be obtained via truck tanker from Marmaris. During summer, the piers become crowded.
The bay to the west, Malderesi, is off-limits as it houses a State summer residence. A coastal path offers forest walks with views of green pines and turquoise water. Okluk is 26 km from Marmaris and 100 km from Dalaman Airport, with transport arrangements possible through the restaurants.
How to get there
Approach Okluk Koyu from the Gokova Gulf, heading into Degirmen Buku between Sazan Burnu and Ince Burun. From Zeytinli Ada, keep to the starboard side as you head east, watching for rocky patches and shoals off the headlands. The bay opens to the south, with the mermaid statue on rocks at the entrance as a visual marker.
The inlet has deep water at 12 meters, shoaling to 7-8 meters near the reedy shores, so navigate carefully in shallower areas. Anchor between the piers or in the northern corner with a stern line ashore. There is no VHF channel specified for the bay; contact the restaurants for assistance.
Land access is via a road connection, with Marmaris 26 km away and Dalaman Airport 100 km away. Transport arrangements can be made through the restaurants. Note that anchoring and landing are prohibited in the adjacent Malderesi Bay to the west, which houses a State summer residence.
