Full Description & Details
Long Harbor, also known as Uzun Liman, is a narrow and deep natural inlet on the northern shore of the Gulf of Gokova in Turkey. Its slender, corridor-like shape stretches inland, surrounded by pine forests, and the bay is known for remaining as still as a lake even during strong winds. There are no settlements or road access, making it a completely isolated anchorage reachable only by sea.
The bay offers full protection from winds from all directions, with the seabed composed of mud providing good holding. Overnight anchoring is permitted, and the deep water allows even large yachts to anchor close to shore. The standard technique is to anchor in 8 to 12 meters of water and take a line to the pine trees on shore, though the very end of the bay shallows where a freshwater stream enters, so monitor your depth sounder closely.
Facilities are minimal, as this is a wild natural harbor with no marina services for water, electricity, or fuel. Several boutique beach restaurants are accessible only by boat or trail, offering fresh seafood and local mezes. For major provisioning or technical support, Kas Marina is nearby, and a boat delivery service is available. The bay is also a sanctuary for Caretta Caretta sea turtles, with snorkeling a popular activity, and the Lycian Way hiking trail passes behind the bay leading to ancient rock tombs.
Mobile phone signals can be weak in certain spots deep inside the bay. The bay is a reliable overnight stop during challenging weather, but ensure your water tanks are full before entering. The best season is the summer cruising period, when the bay offers calm, pool-like conditions. There are no formalities specific to the anchorage itself, but standard Turkish entry procedures apply if arriving from abroad.
How to get there
Approach Long Harbor from the Gulf of Gokova, heading into the narrow inlet. The bay is fully sheltered, but the entrance is slender, so reduce speed and keep a careful watch on the depth sounder, especially when moving deep into the bay where it shallows near the freshwater stream. There are no navigational aids or VHF procedures specific to the anchorage; approach visually and anchor in 8 to 12 meters of water, taking a line to the pine trees on shore.
There is no road access to the bay, so the only land access is by sea. A sea taxi from Kas center takes about 10 minutes. Kas Marina is nearby for major provisioning or technical support, and a boat delivery service is available for supplies.
Formal Turkish entry procedures apply if arriving from abroad, but there are no port offices at the anchorage itself.
