The anchorage itself sits within this larger bay, which is also known as the Gulf of Doris or the Gulf of Symi. It is very indented and offers many lovely anchorages, yet it is not too crowded, making it a practical stopover for a quiet night at anchor.

The holding at Hisaronu Koyu is good on mud and weed, with depths ranging from 4 to 10 meters. The water is murky, so you cannot see the bottom, and it is recommended to take a line to a tree to minimize swinging and interfering with other boats.
