Full Description & Details
English Harbour, also known as Canak Koyu, is a natural anchorage on the western side of Degirmen Buku, a large bay in the Gokova Gulf near Marmaris, Turkey. The inlet extends northward before curving westward, with pine-covered slopes surrounding it.
The name dates to the end of World War II, when British warships used the bay as a concealed base, hidden from German aircraft. It lies west of Hirsiz Koyu and is part of the Degirmen Buku anchorage complex.
How to get there
Approach English Harbour from the Gokova Gulf, entering Degirmen Buku between Sazan Burnu and Ince Burun, south of Zeytinli Ada. The anchorage lies west of Hirsiz Koyu; the inlet extends northward then curves westward.
Depths in the anchorage range from 7 to 8 meters, but the eastern side shoals abruptly toward the shore, so keep to the deeper water when entering. There is no specific VHF channel or formalities reported for this anchorage; it is a natural bay, so no port authority contact is needed.
