Full Description & Details
Caycagız Koyu, also known as Kadırga Koyu, is a large, undeveloped bay on the eastern tip of the Bozburun Peninsula, facing the open waters of the Gulf of Fethiye. It is often the first bay seen when arriving from Rhodes. The water is very clean and clear.
The bay is quite spacious; one report mentions 120 boats anchoring there together with room for all. There is no settlement ashore, though day-trip boats sometimes visit. The seabed has many rocky spots, so anchoring requires care.
At night, strong winds from the hills can create loud noises. The bay is also known for an Archaic period shipwreck discovered nearby during underwater surveys, part of a rich maritime history in the region.
How to get there
Approach Caycagız Koyu from the west or southwest, coming from the direction of Rhodes or Marmaris. The bay lies on the eastern side of the Bozburun Peninsula, and it is the first significant bay encountered when sailing from Rhodes. There are no marked channels or navigational aids described; use visual pilotage. The area has rocky spots, so approach slowly and watch for shallow water.
No VHF channel is mentioned for the bay itself; nearby Marmaris marinas monitor VHF. The bay is remote with no road access described; the nearest town is Marmaris, about 8 kilometers from the larger marinas. For supplies or services, you would need to continue to Marmaris or other developed harbors.
