Full Description & Details
Bodrum anchorage sits in Kumbahce (Castle) Bay, right at the center of Bodrum town in Carsi. The 15th-century Bodrum Castle, now the Underwater Archaeology Museum, dominates the view and marks the approach. This is a large and very popular anchorage, often busy with enough space for a couple of dozen boats.
It brings you directly into the lively Bar Street nightlife, which is loud and runs until the early hours. The bay is open to the south but sheltered from the meltemi; you still feel the wind.
How to get there
Approach with the castle as your landmark. Enter Kumbum Bay to the east of the castle, noting the breakwater entrance lights to the west (Fl G 5s 8M and Fl R 5s 8M) and a high breakwater that blocks visibility, so slow down. Depths range from 2 to 10 meters, and the seabed is sand with weed patches.
Be careful anchoring east of the bay: old submerged buoys remain underwater, and a large party boat crosses at night, so avoid its path. The municipality pier (Kumbahce Port Operation, 0252-313 67 69) offers electricity, water, and fuel by tanker, but is often used by daily tour and diving boats. You can land a dinghy at north-side restaurants or the fisherman's wharf to the east, though it gets busy.
The town center is steps away with many restaurants and shops, and formalities are available at Bodrum Harbor just east, which has customs for large passenger ships.
