Full Description & Details
Puerto Pesquero de La Atunara is a working fishing harbour on the Levante beach at the northeastern edge of La Linea de la Concepcion, in the Campo de Gibraltar region of Andalusia. Built by the Junta de Andalucia in 1993 and operated by the Agencia Publica de Puertos de Andalucia, it shelters a small artisanal fishing fleet alongside a recreational marina. The harbour sits about three kilometres from Punta Carbonera and offers views of Gibraltar Rock, with the La Atunara barrio and its beach immediately adjacent.
The port is protected by a breakwater and a counter-dike, but it remains exposed to Levante winds, which can bring storms in winter and may restrict access. The entrance channel is 40 metres wide with a mean tide of one metre and a reported depth of three metres at the mouth. The marina provides 150 berths for vessels between 8 and 18 metres in length, with a maximum draft of three metres. Holding is in the marina berths; an alternative is to anchor off Levante beach in sand, subject to weather conditions.
Facilities include fuel, water, power, showers, laundry, a repair yard, crane and travel lift, plus a chandlery, provisions, and a restaurant. The port has a fish market (lonja) of 383 square metres, a 3,600 square metre slipway, and a 2.5-tonne forklift. Provisions are available from the local fish market and shops in the La Atunara barrio, where sardines al espeto are a local speciality. The town centre of La Linea de la Concepcion is about three kilometres away.
Levante storms are common in winter and can restrict access, so check conditions before approaching. The harbour is primarily a fishing port, and recreational berths are managed by the regional port authority. Overnight stays are permitted. Contact the port office by phone at 856 584 672 or 600 149 126, or by email at [email protected].
How to get there
Approach Puerto Pesquero de La Atunara from the east or south, using the green light on the breakwater head (Morro del Dique) as the leading mark. The entrance channel is 40 metres wide with a depth of about three metres at the mouth; the harbour is marked on nautical chart 4452. The port is exposed to Levante winds, so time the approach for settled conditions, especially in winter when storms may close the entrance.
Once inside, berth in the marina area and contact the port office on VHF if available, or by phone at 856 584 672. The port is in La Linea de la Concepcion, about three kilometres from the town centre, with road access via the Camino de Sobrevela. The nearest airport is Gibraltar International, a short distance away, and the A-7 motorway connects to the wider Costa del Sol.
