Full Description & Details

Portals Vells is a small marina on the southwest coast of Mallorca, set within a scenic sea inlet between Punta des Xisclet and s'Estaca. The marina is adjacent to the beach of Portals Vells, which is surrounded by pine woodland and forms part of a protected natural area. The setting is sheltered by pine-covered limestone headlands, giving the marina a calm, enclosed character. The marina offers 61 berths with depths ranging from 3 to 8 metres.

Protection is from the north, northeast, east, and northwest, making it a secure haven in most conditions. However, the anchorage and marina are exposed to southerly and southwesterly winds, and a rare southeast Llevant blow can make conditions uncomfortable within hours. Holding on the sandy seabed is excellent, and the marina is suitable for overnight stays. The best months for a visit are May, June, September, and October, as July and August are busy with day boats and motor yachts from Palma.

Facilities at the marina include a restaurant and a kiosk. Fresh water is not available on site. The beach has parking, litter bins, and a restaurant. Safety notes: the marina is open to swell from the south and southeast, and there are unmarked rock outcrops near the cave entrances in the inner cove.

Day boats arrive from 10:00 in July and August. Anchoring on Posidonia seagrass is prohibited and carries fines up to €200,000. The maximum anchoring stay is 5 days.

How to get there

Approach Portals Vells from the south, entering the sea inlet between Punta des Xisclet and s'Estaca. The marina is located at the head of the inlet. Depths in the approach range from 3 to 8 metres.

There are no marked channels or VHF procedures specified for the marina. The inner cove near the Coves del Pirata (pirate caves) has rock outcrops at the cave entrances that are unmarked, so approach slowly and post a bow watch. Land access is via the Carretera Cala Figuera road, with free parking available near the beach.

The nearest town is Magaluf, about 9 kilometres away. The marina is within easy reach of Palma de Mallorca Airport, approximately 25 kilometres to the east. No formalities are mentioned for visiting yachts.
