Full Description & Details

Port de Palamos is a working harbour and marina on the north-east side of Palamos Bay, on the Costa Brava in Catalonia. The port is managed by the public company Ports de la Generalitat and sits within one of the deepest bays in the western Mediterranean. It is protected from strong north winds, making it safe for a wide range of vessels. The port is integrated into the urban fabric of Palamos, so the town's fish market auction, beaches and restaurants are within easy walking distance.

The marina offers 808 berths for boats from 6 to 20 metres in length. Depths at the quays range from 3 to 8 metres, and the access channel has a depth of 21 metres and a width of 320 metres. Mooring is stern to dock alongside catways. Holding is not the main concern here since berths are on fixed docks; anchoring in the bay is separate from the marina. The port also includes a fishing harbour and a cruise berth, but the marina itself is distinct from these.

Facilities within the marina include water, electricity, Wi-Fi, showers, restrooms, laundry, fuel (diesel), a lifting crane, a boat ramp, sewage disposal, recycling, ice for sale, bicycle and car rental, video surveillance and a night watchman. Provisions and dining options are available in the marina and in the nearby town. The harbour master's office can be contacted on VHF channel 9 or by phone at +34 972 314 525.

Approach is straightforward, but watch for the Lloja or Laja de Palamos, a rocky bank with 3.4 metres of water over it, about 0.5 nautical miles south-west of Punta del Molino, marked by a lighted beacon. The port is safe in the strong north winds it is protected from, and the Garbi (south-west) winds and sea breezes are typical in summer. Overnight stays are permitted. The port is certified ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and EMAS.

How to get there

Approach Palamos Bay from the south-east, keeping clear of the Lloja or Laja de Palamos, a rocky bank with 3.4 metres of water over it, about 0.5 nautical miles south-west of Punta del Molino; it is marked by a lighted beacon on its north-west edge. The harbour lies in the north-east part of the bay. The access channel is 320 metres wide with a depth of 21 metres.

Contact the harbour master on VHF channel 9 before entering. Palamos is on the C-31 road, reached from the AP-7 motorway via the C-35 from Barcelona or the C-66 from Girona. The nearest railway station is Caldes de Malavella, about 30 kilometres away.

The port office is at Carrer de la Catifa, 5, and the town centre is within walking distance of the marina.
