Full Description & Details
Canals d'Empuriabrava, also known as Marina Empuriabrava, is a vast residential marina on the Costa Brava, built on former marshland starting in 1968. It is often called the largest marina in the world, with about 23 km of navigable canals and roughly 5000 berths, many in front of private homes.
The marina sits between the Aiguamolls de l'Emporda natural park and the port of Roses, about 3 miles from the Cap de Creus natural park. It is an excellent refuge from the Tramontana wind, which can be strong in the area.
How to get there
Approach from the Bay of Roses, entering between the Muga and Salins rivers. The entrance channel is about 55 m wide and dredged to 3 m depth, with depths dropping to 2.5 m inside the harbour. The best landmark is the 47 m high control tower, lit at night, which stands out on the coast.
Do not confuse the entrance with the Santa Margarida mouth, about 1.5 nm to the NE. Contact the harbour office on VHF channel 9 before entering the main channel; speed is restricted to 3 knots. The entrance is wide and clear of rocks.
