Full Description & Details

Port de l'Estartit is a public harbour managed by Ports de la Generalitat, located in the town of L'Estartit, in the municipality of Torroella de Montgri, Baix Emporda, Catalonia. The harbour includes a fishing basin and a sport marina with 918 berths. The sport sector is operated by Club Nautic Estartit and Associacio Nautica Llevantina. The inner part of the Llevant breakwater is used by glass-bottom boats and divers heading to the Medes Islands, less than a mile offshore. The harbour also hosts the Estacio Nautica l'Estartit - Illes Medes and the Espai Medes, a marine interpretation centre of the Montgri, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park, opened in April 2025.

The marina offers 918 berths for vessels up to 45 metres LOA, with the Club Nautic Estartit managing 643 berths for boats from 4 to 45 metres. Protection is from the east and southwest, with breakwaters built in 1972 (Garbi) and 1990 (Llevant, reinforced in 2013). The harbour is open year-round, with summer as the peak season. Overnight stays are permitted. The seabed in the nearby anchorage off Platja de l'Estartit is sand, and anchoring is allowed there, about 0.5 nautical miles southeast.

Facilities include a sailing school, jet-ski guided routes, kayak and paddle surf rental, and a restaurant at Club Nautic Estartit. The marina holds a Blue Flag distinction. Supermarkets and shops are within walking distance in L'Estartit, about 200 metres from the harbour. The harbour also has a fuel station (benzinera), which was part of the renovation that began in 2016. The fishing basin has two quays, Moll de Ribera (55 metres) and Moll del dic vell (63 metres), serving a small artisanal fleet.

For safety, the harbour is exposed to easterly winds (llevant) and southwest winds (garbi), but the breakwaters provide shelter. The best season is summer, though the marina operates all year. VHF channel 9 is used for harbour communications. The port is part of the Natural Park, so environmental regulations apply, and the marina promotes sustainable management. The town of L'Estartit is about 200 metres away, with road access and nearby amenities.

How to get there

Approach Port de l'Estartit on VHF channel 9. The harbour lies at the town of L'Estartit, with the Medes Islands about a mile offshore. The main breakwater is the Llevant breakwater, built in 1990 and reinforced in 2013, which protects the harbour from easterly winds.

The Garbi breakwater, built in 1972, protects from southwest winds. Enter between the breakwaters, keeping clear of the fishing quays and the inner Llevant breakwater where glass-bottom boats and dive boats operate. Land access is from Carrer de la Platja in L'Estartit, about 200 metres from the harbour.

The town is in the municipality of Torroella de Montgri, in the Baix Emporda region of Catalonia. The nearest airport is Girona-Costa Brava, about 40 kilometres away. Formalities are handled by the harbour office, which can be contacted by phone at +34 972 751 402 or by email at [email protected].
