Full Description & Details
Cala Nova, also known as Port Calanova, is a marina in the bay of Palma de Mallorca, three kilometres from the city centre. It was inaugurated in 1976 as the Calanova National Sailing School and was fully renovated in 2018. The marina sits between Punta de Cas Catala and Cala Guix, with a sandy beach adjacent to the facility. It is an artificial port with an active sailing school, so small sailing boats regularly enter and exit the area.
The marina has 172 moorings for boats between 6 and 25 metres LOA. The depth ranges from 0.9 to 5 metres. All moorings have mains power (220V and 380V), water and WiFi, and the shoreside team is on call 24 hours a day. Overnight stays are accepted. Winds with east and south-east components can be very dangerous inside the marina, so skippers need to assess conditions carefully before entering.
On site there is a small commercial area, the Muelle 327 Gastrodock restaurant with a sky bar, a Calanova Sports Residence, a swimming pool, showers, toilets and parking. The shipyard has a travel lift with 75-tonne capacity, a 3000-square-metre esplanade for repairs, a 3.5-metre-deep lifting pit, and a water access ramp. Services include pressure washing, sanding, fibreglass works, painting, electronics, osmosis treatment, polishing, carpentry, mechanics, electrics and sail making. There is also a 24-hour self-service fuelling dock and a dry dock area for winter storage.
The marina is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is about 30 minutes by car from Palma international airport and a 5-minute drive to Palma, with bus routes from the main road. Anchoring between Cala Nova and Cala Major is restricted near Marivent palace, the summer residence of the Spanish Royal Family. The best season is the summer, though the marina operates year-round.
How to get there
Approach the marina from the bay of Palma de Mallorca, between Punta de Cas Catala and Cala Guix. The coordinates are 39.549 degrees north and 2.599 degrees east. Port access is easy, but caution is required because winds with east and south-east components can be very dangerous inside.
Watch for small sailing boats from the sailing school entering and exiting the facility at all times. Contact the marina on VHF channel 9 for berthing instructions. By land, the marina is at Avda.
Joan Miro, 327, in the Sant Agusti suburb of Palma. It is 3 kilometres from the town centre and roughly 30 minutes by car from Palma international airport. The main bus routes out of Palma pass nearby.
There is no formal customs or immigration clearance needed for EU-flagged vessels; arriving boats should check in with the marina office.
