Marina Alicante is a large recreational harbour on the Mediterranean coast of southeastern Spain, at Muelle 8, Zona de Levante, in the city of Alicante. It sits within the commercial port, about 500 metres from the town centre, with the Castle of Santa Barbara rising to the northeast. The marina has a water surface of 123,392 square metres and capacity for 744 boats up to 60 metres in length. It is open year-round, and the Mediterranean climate gives pleasant weather for most of the year.
The harbour is protected from the east and south, with prevailing winds from the east and south. Maximum draft is 13 metres, and the marina holds craft up to 60 metres long. Berths up to 15 metres have a finger pontoon for easy docking, and every berth from 10 metres up includes water, electric light at 220 and 380 V, and satellite TV. Mooring types include stern to dock, alongside, and catway. Tides are not appreciable, and tugs are not required for entering or leaving.
Facilities on site include fuel, water, power, wifi, showers, laundry, repair services, provisions, a restaurant, and a chandlery. There is also a sewage water facility, a boat ramp, recycling, bicycles, car rental, video surveillance, a night watchman, and ice for sale. A large shopping area and a wide selection of restaurants are within walking distance near the town centre. The marina has a dry dock with services and large installations.
Approaching from the south, leave the Levante breakwater dam 50 metres to starboard. The entrance to the commercial port is 290 metres wide, oriented to the west, with a depth of 13 metres at lowest tide. A low with a probe of 4.3 metres lies about 390 metres to 318 degrees from the green light on the Levante breakwater. Local currents do not follow a regular regime; with west and northwest winds the current runs out, and with east and southeast winds it pulls in. Contact the marina on VHF channel 9.
How to get there
From the south, head for the bay and identify the hills around the city, including the Castle of Santa Barbara to the northeast. Leave the Levante breakwater dam 50 metres to starboard, then follow the outer harbour breakwater northeast towards its end. The entrance to the port opens on your port side, and Marina Alicante is easily identified to starboard.
At night, the green light on the Levante dock (Gpoc (1+3) V18s) is left to starboard at 50 metres; a red lighthouse (Gp (4) R11s) and a green light (DV 2.5s) mark the entrance to the inner harbour. The waiting dock and fuel station sit beside the marina building. By land, Alicante is reached via the AP-7 highway, which connects with Valencia to the north and Murcia and Andalucia to the south, or via the A-31 from Madrid.
The marina is about 500 metres from the town centre, with a large shopping area and many restaurants nearby. The city has an airport and train and bus connections.
