Full Description & Details
Sportska lucica Poljud is a sports harbour on the north side of the Marjan peninsula, at the western edge of Split, Croatia. It sits on the southeast shore of Kastelanski Zaliv (Bay of Kastela), just east of Marina PSD Spinut and next to the Poljud suburb. The harbour is a cluster of three private yacht club marinas: Sportska Lucica Marjan YC, Sportska Lucica Mornar YC, and Sportska Lucica Poljud YC. Between them they manage 450 berths for yachts up to 25 metres, with depths ranging from 1.5 to 4.0 metres. The berths are spread across a series of piers and pontoons owned by the respective clubs.
The harbour is protected to some extent from north and west winds by two short breakwaters, but it is completely open to winds from the west and southwest. Depths in the outer part of the harbour range from 2.5 to 4.0 metres, while the inner part is shallower at 1.5 to 2.0 metres. Laid moorings are provided at all berths, and yachts berth stern or bows-to wherever club staff direct. Berthing assistance may be available. None of the three clubs is likely to accept a visiting yacht, and overnight stays are not offered.
Onshore facilities include a cafe or bar, a restaurant, a minimarket, and a chandlery. A small boatyard offers hard standing for up to 50 yachts, a 20-tonne slipway, a 5-tonne crane, and some engine, electrical and electronic repairs, plus paint works. Security is described as moderate. The harbour is about three kilometres from the centre of Split, a major transport hub with an international airport 20 kilometres to the west, plus bus, train and ferry connections.
Skippers should treat this as a daytime stop or a place to seek assistance, not a destination for overnight mooring. The open exposure to west and southwest winds means the harbour can be uncomfortable in those conditions. The best season for a visit is the summer, when the Adriatic is generally settled. There are no published restrictions beyond the lack of guest berths, so confirm availability with the relevant club before planning an approach.
How to get there
Approach Luka Poljud from the Bay of Kastela, entering between Cape Ciovo at the east extremity of the island of Ciovo and the wooded peninsula of Cape Marjan, two miles west of Split. Round the Marjan peninsula, leaving a green light buoy just north of Cape Marjan to starboard, then continue east along the peninsula. Marina Spinut is the first harbour encountered, about a mile east of Cape Marjan.
Luka Poljud lies half a mile across the bay northeast of Marina Spinut. The berths are spread across piers and pontoons owned by the three yacht clubs, and depths range from 1.5 to 4.0 metres, so keep to the outer part for deeper draft. There is no published VHF channel for the harbour, and no formalities are described beyond contacting the relevant club.
The harbour is three kilometres from the centre of Split, which has an international airport 20 kilometres west, plus bus, train and ferry connections to Zagreb, Rijeka, Dubrovnik and Ancona. Land access is via the Poljud suburb on the north side of the Marjan peninsula.
