Full Description & Details
Puerto Deportivo de Ayamonte is a marina on the River Guadiana, in the town of Ayamonte, the westernmost coastal town in Andalusia, Spain. It sits on the river's east bank, sheltered in the river estuary, with the Portuguese harbour of Vila Real de Santo Antonio on the opposite bank about two miles south. The marina is a practical stop for yachts heading upriver to Sanlucar de Guadiana, and the town is a base for exploring the Guadiana estuary marshlands. The Isla Canela tourist complex lies about 2 km away.
How to get there
The entrance to the River Guadiana is marked by the 1.2 mile mole of Ponta de Santo Antonio on the west side of the estuary, and the channel is buoyed from about one mile off. Once past the mole, keep to the port side of the channel where the water is deeper, then follow the buoyed channel upriver; the marina entrance is just over 2.5 miles upriver on the east bank. The entrance tends to silt, with reported depths of 1.5 to 2.0 metres at low water, so it is best entered two hours either side of high water. Strong tidal cross-currents at the entrance can make entry difficult when a strong ebb is running. The marina monitors VHF channel 9.
