Porto de Caion is a small working harbour in the village of Caion, in the municipality of A Laracha, on the Galician coast of A Coruna. It is a fishing port first, with nets, small boats, and a compact centre on the slope above, lined by a few cafes and a restaurant. The harbour is sheltered from winds and moderate seas from the south to the north by the west, but it is open to the northeast, so waves can enter and make it uncomfortable. It is suitable only for small craft.
How to get there
Approach between Punta Atalaya, which is high and steep, and the peninsula of Caion, the most pronounced headland to the north on this coast from Punta Langosteira. The entrance is open to the east and should be taken with care, preferably in good weather. The seabed is quite dirty, with the San Martino bank north of Punta Atalaya and the Baixas bank on the north-south line of the cove's centre. Between these banks and Caion, depths of 8 to 15 m are found, and a leading line on a bearing of 147° 10' helps guide the entrance, passing relatively close to the Laxes rock. The leading line is difficult to find. Depths near the breakwater tip are 3 to 2 m, and with a NW swell the sea builds up dangerously at the entrance.
