Full Description & Details

Port de Mataro is a large marina on the Catalan coast, about 30 km northeast of Barcelona, operated by Ports de la Generalitat. It is the biggest harbour in the Maresme region, with 1,080 berths for boats from 7 to 30 metres. The marina sits in front of a Neptune grass meadow and holds the EMAS environmental certificate and the European Blue Flag. The town centre of Mataro is close by, and a suburban railway station runs alongside the port, giving easy access inland and along the coast.

The harbour is entered through a fairway 80 metres wide with a depth of 7 metres; inside the harbour the depth is 5 metres. The total length of jetties is 1,650 metres. Mooring is stern to dock with mooring lines provided. The holding is good on the sandy bottom, and overnight stays are allowed. The marina has a waiting dock of 40 metres for arriving vessels.

Facilities are comprehensive. Fuel is available, with diesel and RON 98 petrol. Water, electricity, showers, toilets, laundry, and Wi-Fi are provided. There is a boatyard with a slipway, a 100-tonne gantry crane, and repair and maintenance services. A 7,000 square metre shopping and leisure area includes restaurants and provisions. Other services include a sailing school, water sports school, car park, electric vehicle charging points, selective waste collection, bilge emptying, and a 24-hour surveillance service. A sewage water facility is also available.

Safety is supported by a 24-hour night watchman and video surveillance. The harbour office monitors VHF channel 9. The best season for visiting is from spring to autumn, when the Mediterranean weather is most settled. The marina is part of the fishing harbour, with three quays of 3.5 to 4 metres depth, but these are for fishing boats. There are no specific restrictions mentioned for visiting yachts beyond standard marina rules.

How to get there

Approach Port de Mataro from seaward on the bearing given by the harbour entrance, which is marked by the fairway. The entrance is 80 metres wide with a depth of 7 metres, and the inner harbour has a depth of 5 metres. Contact the harbour office on VHF channel 9 before entering to arrange a berth.

The marina provides a waiting dock of 40 metres if you need to wait for instructions. Once inside, follow the fairway to the visitor berths, which are stern to dock. The marina is located at Carrer del port, s/n, 08302 Mataro.

The town centre is within walking distance, and a suburban railway station is alongside the port, connecting to Barcelona and other coastal towns. The nearest airport is Barcelona El Prat, about 40 km away. No formalities are mentioned beyond standard check-in at the harbour office.
