Full Description & Details

Marina Sitia is the harbour of Sitia, the most eastern port town in Crete, located in the Lasithi regional unit. The town sits directly at the waterfront, with the Venetian castle and town buildings visible from the sea. The marina is a working commercial harbour where local fishing boats and ferries share the quays with visiting yachts, giving it a functional rather than resort-like character.

The harbour offers good protection from all winds, with stern-to or bow-to mooring available. Depths alongside the northern breakwater are around 7 meters, though yachts may have to compete for space with larger fishing boats. The outer end of the quay can be exposed in southerly winds, which have a fetch of up to two miles across the bay. Holding is on laid moorings rather than anchoring. Water and electricity are available, with fuel, wifi, showers, and laundry facilities on site.

Amenities include water, power, fuel, wifi, showers, and laundry. The town is immediately adjacent, with many grocery stores and supermarkets for provisioning. The Michos restaurant is recommended for local dishes like mizithropites and kontosouvli. Minor repairs can be arranged, and there are banks, pharmacies, and a hospital in town. The harbour has video surveillance and a night watchman.

Sitia is not a Port of Entry, so no immigration formalities are available. The harbour entrance is lit with a flashing green light on the right and a flashing red on the left. Call the harbour captain on VHF channel 12 or by phone a day before arrival. The best season is generally the summer months, though the marina can be used year-round with good all-wind protection.

How to get there

Approach Sitia from the west after rounding Akrotiri Vamvakia, where the Venetian fort above the harbour is clearly visible. The harbour entrance is lit by a flashing green light on the right and a flashing red light on the left. There are no dangers in the approach. Contact the harbour captain on VHF channel 12 or call +302843022310, ideally a day before arrival.

Sitia has an airport with flights and ferry connections to Athens. The town is directly at the marina, with bus connections to Agios Nikolaos, Iraklion, and Ierapetra, plus car rental agencies available.
