Full Description & Details

Marina (Port) Kioni is a popular yacht harbor on the northeast coast of Ithaca in the Ionian Sea, four miles north of the main harbor of Vathi. The village sits at the foot of a deep valley, partly sheltered from east winds by a rocky headland with ruined windmills. The pier is often packed by midday during the season.

Harbor cover is good in prevailing westerly or northwesterly winds, but unsuitable in strong easterlies, when heading for Wathy is better. The entrance has no dangers and is identified by three ruined windmills on a promontory in the southern part of the bay. Depths at the entrance are 10 to 12 meters, and along the embankment from 2 to 5 meters.

The marina has 2 berths: the main one along the north side of the pier can hold 20 to 25 yachts at anchor, while the other, on the west side, allows 6 to 8 yachts to moor stern or bow to the shallow waterfront, with depths under a meter so anchoring is required. In stable weather, anchoring with a line ashore is possible in small bays on the south coast, where depths are 6 to 10 meters and the anchor holds well in sand and algae. Restaurants operate year-round, including Piccolo Coffee, Mills, Calypso, and Mythos Taverna, serving seafood.

The Yacht Club offers excursion bookings to nearby islands. Hotels, cabins, and apartments are available right on the harbor.

How to get there

Approach Marina Kioni from the sea, identifying the entrance by three ruined windmills on a promontory in the southern part of the bay. There are no dangers on the approach, but with an afternoon sea breeze, strong gusts can occur at the bay entrance. Depths at the entrance are 10 to 12 meters.

The pier for yachts is in the upper part of the bay, behind a short breakwater. No VHF channel is specified in available sources. For land access, the village of Kioni is on Ithaca's northeast coast, four miles north of Vathi, the island's main harbor.

The nearest airport is likely on a neighboring island, but no specific airport or road details are provided in the sources. Formal procedures for visiting yachts are not detailed, but as a Greek port, standard Schengen entry and port authority clearance would apply.
