Full Description & Details

The Marina of Agia Galini is a small harbour on the south coast of Crete, in the Municipality of Agios Vasileios, Rethymno Regional Unit. It is a former fishing harbour that has grown into a tourist resort, with the village of Agia Galini directly at the quay, dense with tavernas and cafes. A long sandy beach lies to the north east. The marina is a compact facility, with the village and its services immediately at the water's edge.

The harbour offers good shelter in all weather conditions, with stern-to, bow-to and alongside moorings available. The marina has 10 berths, with a maximum vessel length of 35 metres and a maximum draught of 2.4 metres. Depths in the harbour range from 4.5 metres at the root of the south quay to 6.5 metres in the south east corner, where visiting yachts are best to moor. The holding in the harbour is suspect, and some yachts have experienced damage during severe weather despite heavy anchoring arrangements. If strong winds are expected, it may be wise to seek a berth alongside the breakwater.

Amenities at the marina include fuel, water, electricity, wifi and showers. Water and electricity points on the quay are widely spaced. Toilets are located at the root of the breakwater near the port police building. The village offers good shopping for provisions, and there are many tavernas for dining out. A ramp in the harbour serves small boats. There are Harbour Police and Customs authorities present.

In winter, very strong winds limit use of the harbour. There is a light on the south west corner of the harbour wall. The approach has no dangers, although the end of the breakwater should be given a generous clearance. The marina monitors VHF channel 12. Overnight stays are permitted.
