Full Description & Details
Katapola Marina sits on the shore of Katapola Bay on the west coast of Amorgos, the easternmost island of the Cyclades. The town of Katapola wraps around the bay, with whitewashed houses climbing the hillsides. The marina is the island's main port and a natural stop for yachts crossing between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.
The setting is calm and traditional, with tavernas and cafes lining the waterfront. The bay is open to the southwest, so some swell can enter, but the marina itself offers sheltered berths. The surrounding sea is clear and good for swimming, and dolphins are sometimes seen in the area.
The island's interior is rugged and dry, with the famous Panagia Hozoviotissa monastery built into a cliff high above the sea.
How to get there
Approach Katapola Bay from the southwest, taking care to avoid the rocky islet of Megali Vliha and its reef on the southern side of the entrance. The marina is at the head of the bay, with the town visible ahead. Depths in the approach are generally 10 to 20 meters until close inshore.
There are no dedicated leading marks, but the harbor breakwater and the church tower in town provide a clear reference. The marina monitors VHF channel 69 during the season. Anchor or take a berth on the quay, but note that the inner harbor dries in places, so check local advice for the best spot.
