Full Description & Details

Luka Krijal is a small natural harbor on the northwest coast of Premuda island in the northern Adriatic, part of the Cres-Losinj archipelago. The only settlement, Krijal, sits on the hill above the harbor. A chain of small rocky islets shields the anchorage, though swell can enter the strait during westerly winds and Jugo (southeast wind). The harbor is primarily for local boats and small yachts; the local boat harbor further south is mostly for residents or vessels up to 9 meters with a draft of 1.8 meters.

Guest space is limited, but mooring buoys are available between the harbor and the offshore islets, typically in depths of 5 meters. The holding is reliable in sandy and weedy seabed, and lines can be taken ashore to limit swinging. The maximum depth at the quay is about 1.8 to 2.0 meters, so yachts with a draft under 2.0 meters can moor bow-to, though depths may vary due to ballast. Strong south winds can make the harbor uncomfortable, and northwest or southeast winds can affect the buoy moorings.

The inlet of Uv. Premuda, a little over a mile southeast, offers anchoring in 6 to 8 meters in three arms, with the South arm providing excellent shelter in most weather; caution is needed near the S headland due to a rocky shelf.

How to get there

Approach Luka Krijal at approximately 44°20.2'N, 014°35.6'E. The harbor is on the northwest coast of Premuda, protected by a chain of islets. Enter from the sea, keeping a wide berth of the rocky shelf near the S headland of the bay.

The entrance has depths of about 4.0 meters, shallowing to 2.0 meters at the head. Moor bow-to at the quay where space is available, or pick up a mooring buoy between the harbor and the islets in about 5.0 meters of water. Docking at the ferry pier is forbidden.

The local boat harbor further south is mostly for locals; guest moorings are limited. There is no VHF channel listed for this harbor; monitor channel 17 if in use locally. The nearest larger port is Zadar on the mainland, about 30 nautical miles southeast.
